The two previously reported Purple Sandpipers were feeding on large stone
blocks near water level way out, past the "elbow" of the breakwater on
Thursday, Nov 22, at 11AM.
They were seen on the Lake Michigan side of the south breakwater (pier)
at the mouth of the Muskegon River in Pere Marquette Park, Muskegon,
Michigan. My thanks to a local birder, 'Fellow',
who led me out to the spot where he had just seen the birds. Thursday,
there was no ice on the concrete path to the lighthouse. Fellow told
that there were 14 PURSAN present a few winters ago,
and they stayed until the breakwater was covered with ice.

Thanksgiving Day! What a great time to remember ALL the of the birders
who have helped me over the past 30 years of so. Thanks to you all!!
Just checked my Avisys and I saw my first Michigan
PURSAN there Nov 26, 1999. This time I added PURSAN to my bird photo
list.

They're back. I saw two purple sandpipers (originally reported on
Saturday) along the pier at Pere Marquette Park in Muskegon County.
