Today Robert Epstein and I found a Red-throated loon in the Lapeer
County portion of Holloway Reservoir. To access the location, go
west on Mt. Morris Road from German Road over the Flint River and
immediately on the south side of the road there is a parking area
designated for fishing. Park and follow an unofficial trail to the
edge of the reservoir. Then walk west along the bank of the
reservoir about 100 yards. The Red-throated Loon was along the far
(southern) shoreline. Not much else on the water today--a couple
Common Loons and three Red-breasted Mergansers in that area.
Strangely no Bonaparte's Gulls on the reservoir which normally hosts
hundreds of them at this time of the year.

North of Columbiaville, still in Lapeer County, on Marathon Road just
south of Hollenbreck Road, we found an immature Northern Shrike.

Cheers,
