A snowy owl has appeared near M-40 northwest of Hamilton. It looks to be either a female or 1st year male. I just had a call about it yesterday and it seems to have just showed up since Saturday. The fields where I saw it at about 4 pm yesterday are near the intersection of 50th Street and 138th Avenue in Northwest Allegan County. It was both southwest and northwest of this intersection in the few minutes that I looked at it. The intersection is just about 1/3 of a mile from M-40, so commuters may be able to swing by and see it. A nearby resident made it sound like this is a regular haunt area for snowy owls over the last 5-7 years. Good birding.
