Howdy Folks,

Jean Carpenter called to report that a female COMMON EIDER had been found in Grand Marias, Alger County around 5 this evening just off the western breakwall next to the lighthouse (the entrance to the harbor).
My friends JR Sundberg & Kim Hardenbrook refound it at dusk and sent me a dark but identifiable photo of the bird and it does appear to be a Common Eider. The bird was fishing right off the breakwall and was seen until the light faded. However, Jean had told me that the bird had flew around a few times into the channel between the two breakwalls and even made it into the harbor once, so you may have to search around for the bird if you go. A few of us will be out in the?morning to try and refind the bird. Someone will post up the results of our efforts either way.

Good luck

~Skye Haas
