An adult Franklin's Gull in breeding plumage was at the mouth of the AuTrain
River this afternoon. This location is about 12 miles west of Munising on
the north side of M28. There is a yellow blinking light at the spot where
you need to turn north off of M28 to park at the "MDOT Scenic View". The
mouth of the river is visible from the parking spaces at the top of the
little hill.

A Whimbrel with reg legs is being reported by Jean Carpenter, other Piping
Plover monitors, and visiting U of MN field ornithologists in Grand Marias.
It was seen yesterday near the base of the western breakwall on the north
side of town. I was unable to find the bird at dawn this morning, but it
has since been relocated a couple of hundred yards west of this location at
the edge of the grasses covering the dunes. Scott Hickman
