I birded the second shift at Pointe Mouillee--3:15 to 6:15 p.m on
July 29th. I had a Snowy Egret that flushed with a group of 20 Great
Egrets on the east side of the Vermet Unit. The Snowy Egret then
landed in with roosting gulls and egrets at the north end of the
Vermet Unit. I am always struck at how uncommon Snowy Egret is at
Pointe Mouillee compared to marshes east of Toledo on Lake Erie. For
example on July 6th I had six Snowy Egrets at Metzgar Marsh.
Other birds at Pointe Mouillee included Glossy Ibis at the south end
of the Vermet Unit; 1 Sanderling in cell 4; a Ruddy Turnstone in cell 3.
A Sedge Wren was singing from the SW* corner of the Long Pond Unit.
I checked the Waltz sod farm in southern Wayne County with negative
results.
