All-
To my astonishment, at shortly after 1PM today, 17 Jan 07, I looked outside
my commercial office in Grand Rapids and had a Black-throated Gray Warbler
foraging in a Red Pine 25 ft from my window. I watched the bird briefly
with binoculars to confirm its identity- it was probably a female as the
dark head markings were slate gray, not blackish- but lost the bird before I
could get my camera and scope ready. I searched continuously around my
buildling but could not relocate the bird as of 2PM.
I have no idea whether this bird is refindable, so chase at your own risk.
I would recommend walking behind the buildling and searching the other
conifers next to the building, as well as the corridor of trees along the
Grand River.
Directions:
Take 131 to Grand Rapids and exit at Leonard St. Go east on Leonard, and
immediatly upon crossing the Grand River, turn left (north) on Monroe Ave.
My buildling is about 1/3 mile ahead, the large buildling on the left
labelled 1345. The warbler was in a ~60 ft Red Pine about 150 ft south of
the northeast corner of the buildling (just outside the entrance door facing
Monroe Ave).
I will try to put up a peanut heart feeder and some suet in hopes of
refinding the bird, and will update the list if it's refound.
