We had an extreme close-up view of an immature Peregrine Falcon, perched
atop a telephone pole today at Noon near Rudyard. We cruised Centerline Road
twice looking for snowy owls, with no luck. We then crossed I-75 to Hantz
Road and headed south, parallel to Centerline Road. At Noon I stopped near
the UP Hay Co. barn to watch two flying rough-legged hawks (light-phase).
We then saw the immature peregrine looking down at us from a utility pole
directly in front of us, on the east side of Hantz Road. I tried to "wish"
this bird into a Prairie Falcon or a Gyrfalcon with no luck. The five-minute
close-up view while perched and the following in-flight view as the bird
flew away toward I-75 left no doubt-------immature peregrine falcon. After
a break for lunch we returned at 1:00 P.M. and cruised both Hantz Road and
Centerline Road. We did not find the peregrine again, no snowy owls either.

Other miscellany: Northern Shrike in pursuit of a snow bunting, the
snow bunting escaped (Riverside Drive and 22 Mile Road, 1:30 P.M.)

Kestrel: Riverside Drive and 9 Mile Road
(1:45 P.M.)
