I found a 1st year Glaucous Gull this afternoon at around 1:00 pm at the
McGill Landfill in Jackson County. I watched it for about 15 minutes before
it disappeared. Lathe Claflin arrived shortly after it disappeared and then
my wife Robyn and friend Jenny Sullivan arrived. We watched until after 2:00
pm when Lathe re-found the bird and we all got great views of it.

Our observation point was from outside of the landfill just across the road
from the entrance. Both times the Glaucous Gull seen sitting on the bank
below and to the right of the active dumping site in the landfill. There
were several hundred Ring-billed Gulls and many Herring Gulls present.

Directions: From I-94 take exit 141 (Elm Road) and go north on Elm 100 yards
or less.
Turn right onto Seymour Road for 1 mile to a 3 way stop intersection
(Seymour does not have a stop going in this direction).
At the intersection go straight onto McGill Road (Seymour turns to the
right).
The landfill is just over the first hill on the right.
There is a pullout on the left side just before the entrance - with the
current dumping configuration you can view the gull activity from this
location.
The landfill does not allow entrance for birders do to liability issues.
