[se-mi-birdlist] pacific loon, washtenaw county

The PACIFIC LOON found yesterday by Maggie Jewett at the Portage Yacht 
Club, Portage Lake, Washtenaw County, is still there this morning.  Sean 
Bachman, Lyle Hamilton, Larry Sheldon, Reg Baker, Bob Kelsch and I 
watched this bird from about 9:30 to 10:30.  A White-winged Scoter was 
also in the group of birds with the loon.  This morning they were out in 
the middle of the lake, a good distance away but the Pacific Loon was 
still easily identifiable through a scope.  I tried for some digiscoped 
pictures at 60X.  I can almost promise that I didn't get any great 
photos.  Lyle, with a better scope than mine, might have done better.

The loon was apparently much nearer when Maggie was watching it 
yesterday.  I've inserted below her reply to my query about distance.

Portage Yacht Club is on Dexter-Pinckney Rd. a bit south of the 
Livingston County/Washtenaw County line.  It is about 0.4(?) miles north 
of McGregor Rd.  Park in the parking lot and walk behind the building to 
the lake.

this bird swimming back and forth through them - but alone.  Had all  of 
the markings of an immature, I think, because I saw faint  striations on
