Listers,
I?ran into?Marcia Kubacki and Alan Ryff at Pointe Mouillee Tuesday for some evening birding from the Mouillee Creek entrance (they had searched unsuccessfully for the White-winged Dove along Roberts Rd).?While walking the center dyke I had a juvenile Yellow-crowned Night-Heron flyover into the Lead Unit. We had a mixed group of dowitchers in the Lautenschager Unit on the Bloody Run side. I caught up with the Hudsonian Godwit flying in to the Vermet Unit with Greater Yellowlegs. They landed near the end of the channel that runs toward the banana from the Southwest corner of the Vermet - this is the area where the sand spit was earlier in the Summer. We also witnessed the Purple Martin spectacle at dusk. There were plenty of swallows around but after sunset the Martins came in by the THOUSANDS and headed toward the banana. They swirled in a huge mass above the marsh and many were dropping?down to roost in the phragmites.
A great evening at Mouillee and NO break-ins:)
