Birders,

Late this morning (April 8) as I was leaving Metro Beach Metropark, Macomb
Co., I was able to see the long-staying Red-throated Loon without getting
out of my car, saving the 1/2 mile walk each way that was previously
required. The bird was in the NORTH Marina, which can be accessed by taking
the first left turn after passing the entry booth. The bird was out in the
middle mostly, but did spend some time near the docks where it might be hard
to locate unless you walked near them. It seemed to be diviing regularly,
and seemed to catch something on one dive. At one point it reared up and
gave a few hearty wing flaps...no apparent missing wing feathers.

A Common Loon flew past us earlier in the morning, calling quite loudly.
Other birds included an Eastern Phoebe, several Fox Sparrows, a couple of
Winter Wrens (singing), an American Pipit, a Rusty Blackbird, several
Golden-crowned Kinglets, and Brown Creepers. There are still at least 1000
Lesser Scaup in Lake St. Clair with lesser numbers of Greater Scaup,
Canvasback, Redhead, Ruddy Duck, and Common Merganser.

Every day, the hummingbird eats its own weight in food.
You may wonder how it weighs the food. It doesn't.
It just eats another hummingbird.
