WPBO - Long-tailed Jaeger & Red-necked Phalarope

Today was exceptional in many ways. The biggest highlight was a pale
juvenile LONG-TAILED JAEGER that was joined by a dark juvenile PARASITIC
JAEGER in the morning. The bird was first spotted flying low over the water
past the tip; it then landed on the water offshore (unfortunately out of
camera range) and in a little fog. Not long after it lit, the Parasitic
joined it, creating a delightful contrast in size, shape and coloration. Two
other times in the day, the Parasitic made a pass right over the point,
heading the wrong way. In the afternoon, close to the end of the waterbird
count, a winter RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was seen feeding on the water just off
the tip. A poor photo will be posted to my blog later.

Migration was stagnated today by Southeast winds, but tomorrow they are
switching to North and Northwest for the next two days, so we're
anticipating a great flight (fingers crossed). Congratulations to Don
Jennette for finally enjoying the pleasures of a long sought life bird
(LTJA)!
