UP Rare Bird Report for September 13, 2006

Migration underwent a fundamental shift this week in the Upper Peninsula. The first serious cold front occurred on Friday the 8th with the first frost advisory of the season issued. Warblers have notably decreased in numbers with mid-September migrants like White-crowned Sparrows and Grey-cheeked Thrushes appearing in the last week. Along the waterfront the number shorebirds have dropped, while duck numbers and Red-throated Loons are increasing.
A final note for this week is that a year has passed since the Upper Peninsula Rare Bird Report was born. I hope everyone has enjoyed the UP reports as much has I have, and we at UP Birders have a few ideas bouncing around to update www.UPBirders.org in the next couple of months. Stay tuned!
