Howdy Folks,

I just wanted to clarify a few points on the directions to the Mountain Bluebird. The bird is on the Stonington Peninsula about 2 miles shy of the southern tip (Peninsula Pt.). The bird was in a flock of foraging Eastern Bluebirds that were scattered over a quarter mile length along County Road 513. There was a grove of young Red Pine to the north of the white cottage that some of the bluebirds were feeding in. We orginally had the bird in a small bittersweet vine south of the cottage, but lost the bird as it moved north up the road. We did have great views of the bird for about ten minutes before losing it. However the bird could easily still be there, I had to leave to get back up for a class, so I could not spent too much time picking through the Bluebirds. This area (the field country in the southern Stonington) is a great area for holding flocks of Bluebirds at this time of year and this bird could be present over the weekend.

Further directions are below, thanks to Alec Lindsay for always being "home"!

Good luck!

~Skye Haas

Hello Birders,

The wound of being lab-and-office-bound all the time has just had salt poured upon it, by none other than Skye Haas (with Ryne Rutherford). Knowing I would be near a computer he called from the field to ask me to send a message regarding:

MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD (Sialia currocoides)

Peninsula Point
On County Road 513, near the very end (15-17 miles south of US2)
In some open fields just before you get to the point, near a white cottage on the east side of the road (house number 4210) you may find a flock of Eastern Bluebirds, in the midst is a female Mountain Bluebird.
Please go enjoy this bird, and please be kinder than Mr. Haas and *don't* tell me about it.

Best,
Alec
