Greetings,

I did a lakewatch both this morning and this evening from Douglas Public Beach and had a good movement of birds. Highlights consisted of 7 Black Scoter, 4 Surf Scoter, 17 White-winged Scoter, 7 Cackling Geese and a Merlin. Although most birds were on the wing south, the Surf's were on the water tucked in for the night and the White-winged did a U-turn heading back north. Passerines coming ashore were more considerable than I have seen in the past with numerous thrush, sparrow, kinglet and woodpecker. Gull flocks far out over the lake as well as close to land were having a hay-day feasting on these exhausted songbirds. The Merlin was sitting in a snag occassionally joining in. My intention is to be here again early tomorrow morning if anyone cares to join me.

Good birding,

Rick Brigham

Douglas
