The tendency of rarities to linger in the central U.P. continues as the
Summer Tanager previously reported as being in Grand Marias was still
present today. This is at least five days after it was first observed.
Additionally, several Bohemian Waxwings were mixed in with more than 30
cedars at the same location. The directions previously posted by the
Hubingers were easy to follow and are included below. Scott Hickman

"They have given permission to enter their property, via a 200 foot driveway
into the woods. To reach their home, drive north on M-77 to Mixon Road,
which is approximately 1 mile south of the town of Grand Marias(and, before
descending the hill to the town). This is a gravel road that only goes west
off of M-77. Their driveway is the first driveway to the north (or a right
hand turn) on Mixon Road. The address is E21598. When entering the driveway,
you should park in the parking area in front of their 1 1/2 story log home.
We observed the bird from our car, though you may walk along the north side
of their home, where there is a trail into the woods behind the home. There
are quite a few mountain ash trees in this wooded area. The bird was
observed eating ash berries while we were there. Today was the 3rd day the
bird has been observed. As all birders should know, respect the Block's
property and take only pictures (as mine didn't turn out very well). Thanks,
Mark & Joanie Hubinger"
