Hello,
Kevin Welsh and I birded the UP this weekend. On Saturday, Nov. 25th, we saw
the Vermillion Flycatcher in Big Bay. The bird showed up around 9:00 a.m.,
flying around and perching on various trees and posts. My guess is that the
bird is "sleeping in" on these cold mornings, so being there at the crack of
dawn is probably not essential. On the same date we also had the
Green-tailed Towhee in Marquette on Ridge Street about a block west of Louie
Taccolini's property, associating with a flock of juncos in the cemetary.
This morning (Nov. 26th) we had Red-necked Grebe, Long-tailed Ducks and a
Cackling Goose along the Marquette lakefront.
On the 24th we had a Northern Shrike at Pte. LaBarbe in Mackinac County and
two Gray Jays about two miles down Walsh Grade Road in Schoolcraft County.
Cheers,
