Hello all,
Sorry for the late posting, here are a few updates on some of the lingering
birds in the UP right now.
The Vermilion Flycatcher was still present at its usual location on November
18th, flycatching actively throughout the time we watched him. It appears
the homeowners nearby have been letting him stay in their pole barn at
night.
The Keweenaw Bay Western Grebe (near the town of L'Anse) was quickly located
at the south end of the bay and best seen from the pulloffs off of 41 along
this side. A second Western-type Grebe was seen distantly to the North from
one of these pulloffs, but despite much searching we were not able to
relocate this bird. It would likely be worthwhile to keep an eye out farther
north on the Keweenaw for this bird.
The Green-tailed Towhee in Marquette continues to be seen well, see previous
posts for directions.
Redpolls and crossbills were present in good numbers along the Peshekee
Grade yesterday, with White-winged Crossbills being particularly common.
Good birding,
--
