Birders:
John Ralston and I spent the afternoon at the Dafter Landfill and saw lots
of interesting gulls.
The highlight was an adult Lesser Black-backed -likely the same individual
that has been at the Sault,Ontario Landfill on and off for the last 2 weeks.
As well we had:
Iceland (Kumlein's)- at least 3 first year, 1 second year and 1 third year
Thayer's- at least 1 probably 2 first year
GBB- at least 1 first year and 1 second year
Ring-billed-1 adult
Herring- 1000-2000
Surprisingly we had no Glaucous Gulls. They are around however as I had
three at the Sault ,Ontario Landfill on Friday. We also had a unusual
second year darkish-mantled gull that eluded initial identification. Some
wise individuals suggested the possibility of Herring x Great Black-backed
on veiwing the photos. I think this is likely the case but if any gull
enthusiasts would like to see the pictures and give an opinion E-mail me off
list.
