All-
Craig Kasmer of the Michigan DNR just informed me that a Varied Thrush was
seen today, 8 Nov 2006, by him, at the feeding station at Hartwick Pines
State Park. Strikingly, this is nearly a year to the date that another
Varied Thrush was seen at exactly the same spot.
>From Grayling go north on I-75 a few miles to Highway 93, heading east off
the exit a couple miles to the park entrance on the left. Upon passing the
booth take an immediate right which will take you to the visitor center.
The feeder at which the bird was seen is on the backside of this building,
and it is visible both from inside the windows and outside on the deck.
In other news, yesterday I had a first cycle Iceland Gull at Lake Missaukee
in Lake City, Missaukee County. It was visible from the parking lot on M-55
just south of town, loafing about 150 yds offshore.
Good birding,
Caleb Putnam
