Townsend's Warbler - Houghton Co.

Sorry for the late post but I had to leave town yesterday afternoon and
didn't have a chance to post this:

Russ Hanson and I saw a Townsend's Warbler yesterday afternoon on Quincy
Hill along Limerick Street which is one block behind from Peterson's Fish
Market along US 41. It was foraging in the yards of the three houses
located on Limerick Street between 1st Street and Campus Drive.
Unfortunately (even for us) it was moving at kinglet speed and didn't linger
last being seen at the intersection of Limerick and First Streets.

Directions for those in the neighborhood: U.S. 41 north out of Hancock past
the flashing light (Campus Drive) to First Street (fish market on left) turn
left - go 1 block - and turn left on Limerick - (you are now heading back
toward Campus Drive and can reach it via a dirt "path"). The bird was first
seen at the second house on the left (with the yellow garage) but visited
all three houses on the street -- foraging under the eaves of the houses
(Yellow-rumped Warbler style). You are welcome to bird around the house
with the yellow garage where the bird was originally found but please be
careful around the foundation and construction materials in the vicinity
(Keren and I own the house and are working on stabilizing restoring it). The
house next to ours is abandoned and fair game (owned by the Quincy Mine
Association) but the house on the other side of the street is a private
residence and should be respected as such. The open land immediately
surrounding the houses is fine to bird as it is owned by the National Park
Service or the Quincy Mine Association.

I will post, of course, if the bird miraculously returns. It seems to have
a thing for foraging on houses (often good for "late season" cluster flies
and moths) but maybe once winter returns again maybe it will head into a
feeder -- get those suet balls and mealworms ready!
