Yesterday (11/05) Darlene Friedman and I went to Whitefish Pt to see the White-winged Doves at the feeder there. We were not disappointed. They were there throughout the morning. Not a lot of waterbirds were moving past the point - some Long-tailed Ducks, 2 White-winged Scoters, a couple of loons and 3 Red-necked Grebes in the hour or so that we were at the waterfowl watch. There were a few Horned Larks and many Snow Buntings moving through. Ken Mettie was watching a Northern Mockingbird at the Harbor of Refuge just south of Whitefish when we arrived there. There were lots of gulls as well but nothing interesting. There were numbers of winter finches in the air throughout the area but few came down to be seen. We found some redpolls and a few siskins (and many goldfinches) but nothing else. On the way up we found a Gray Jay (maybe two) near Moran. We found another at Hulburt Bog. Also on the way up was a Northern Shrike just south of Paradise. I have never seen Snow Buntings in as many places as we did yesterday. They were along all the roads. We saw hundreds in total in flocks up to about 50 birds each.
