A single purple sandpiper was spotted on the south side of the Frankfort, Michigan pier at just a few minutes before sunset Sunday, November 5, 2006. The bird was clearly observed working the rocks alongside the second half of the pier about halfway to the end after the pier turns to the left.

The Frankfort pier is located at the west end of Main Street in Frankfort. Most people will enter Frankfort from the east on M-115. M-115 turns into Forest St. upon entering the city limits. Proceed to the first yellow flashing light on Forest which is the junction of Forest and M-22. Turn left at the yellow flashing light and go one block to Main St. Turn right onto Main St. and drive to the extreme west end arriving at a city park, currently under reconstruction. Park here and proceed on foot to the pier on the right, the Frankfort pier.
