Mich-listers,

This just in from Sally & Kenyon Stebbins [received 1pm, 2 May 2006]--JTW:

"Dear birders,

This morning [ 1 May 2006] while checking unsuccessfully for Piping Plovers
at Petoskey State Park, we found four AMERICAN AVOCETS. They were foraging
along the shoreline approx. one mile north of the state park beach, not
quite to the pavilion at Harbor Cove (private property). The location can
be legally accessed from Petoskey State Park by walking north along the
shoreline.

According to the PRAS records that we have, including all of the spring
migration counts dating back more than 20 years, no American Avocets have
ever been recorded in Emmet County. If anyone has information about
sightings of American Avocets in Emmet County, we'd love to hear from you!

You can reply to us directly at stebbins at chartermi.net. Thanks. "
