Birders,

I observed a winter plumage Red-necked Grebe on Lake Chemumg this evening
between 4:30 and 5:15 PM. The bird was still present when I left with one
other birder still on the bird. The bird was observed on the far north
side of the lake near the north shore. There is no access on the north
shore so the best vantage point is from a small roadside park on the north
side of Grand River Avenue. The bird was almost straight across the lake
from this observation point. A scope would be required if the bird remains
in the same location on the lake.

The small roadside park is about 2 blocks east of the Howell Grand River
exit from I-96 (exit 141) on the north side of Grand River. This exit
can only be used when traveling west on I-96. If traveling from the west
on I-96, you need to exit at the D-19 / Pickney Road exit (exit 137) and
head north into downtown Howell (about 1 mile). Turn right (east) on Grand
River and proceed for about 3 ½ miles until you see the park on your left.
