Listers,
This morning there was an adult GLAUCOUS GULL in Auburn Hills. The bird was
visible from the very busy M-24 just north of Brown Road. This is barely
north of the Palace.
On days when the dump is open, gulls often congregate in several areas on
the east side of M-24 which have been dozed to prepare for future construction
and this is where the GLAUCOUS GULL was today along with a few hundred
Ring-billed/Herring Gulls. The best spot to view them from varies from day to day
as they never seem to be in the same spot but there are a number of parking
lots in the assorted little industrial parks that make up the east side of M-24
in the area. There are actually a couple of different landfills right in the
vicinity there. The one up the hill from the Palace and another one about a
mile further up on the north side of the GM Assembly Plant. This is the only
place in Oakland that I have personally seen Great Black-backed Gulls.
On weekend days, the whole flock of thousands of gulls seems to disappear
from the area.
wish I was in L'Anse
