Hello all,

Today, Erik Enbody and I birded Point Mouiillee. This morning, we located
two CATTLE EGRETS that were actively feeding on the center dike between the
Long Pond and Lead Units. One still had quite a bit of buffy coloration on
the head and throat, but the other one was very overall white.

Afterwards, we searched for shorebirds in Cell 3 and found a BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPER roaming the area quite a bit and defending a dead gull from other
Semipalmated Sandpipers. A RUDDY TURNSTONE spent some time in that area as
well, before flying off. There were quite a few SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS,
STILT SANDPIPERS, and two BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS among the peeps. While watching
the dowitchers for any long-billeds, Andre Moncrieff rode up to tell us
about a MARBLED GODWIT in the northwest part of the Vermet Unit. It was
still there when we arrived, along with some BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS. The
TRICOLORED HERON was also present in it's previous location in the morning
until about noon or so(when we happened to ride by).

A note of caution. Some nonbirders at the Siegler Rd. entrance were talking
about how a man caught someone breaking into his car, and the perpetrator
got in a fight and broke the other man's nose. I have parked at the Mouillee
Creek entrance many times this summer and have still never heard of any
problems there. Peace,
