Listers,

I was fortunate enough to get brief views of an adult LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE near
Frankenmuth this morning. This bird was initially found by Dale Fitch on the
9th on M-83 south of town and reported on Northbirding.com.

At about 9:00 am, having spent 1/2 an hour searching, I first spotted the
SHRIKE on a wire by the SCHARRER family's Centennial Farm on the East side of
M-83 1+1/2 miles north of M-54 which is Birch Run Rd - exit 136 on I-75. There
are 3 silos at the small farm and not much room to pull off the sometimes
busy road. The bird seemed pretty skittish and flew off to the West after less
than a minute of viewing. Another 1/2 hour of searching turned up the bird on
Rathbun Road (1/4 mile north) about 1/2 a mile west of M-83. This time it
flew into a tree and then up to a wire before vanishing back to the South. I
searched for another 1/2 hour or so with no success for a total of less than two
minutes of SHRIKE in over an hour and a half.

I know that some other birders have searched the area today with no luck
yet. The whole stretch from M-54 to Frankenmuth is mostly farm fields and woods
with not much of what I'm accustomed to seeing as typical Loggerhead Shrike
habitat in other States.

Hope you get to see it if you try.
