Snowy Egrets, Monroe County

This morning (Aug. 5) at 9:00 I saw a single Snowy Egret near the
southwest corner of the Gun Club (Erie Marsh Preserve) and when I
came back by the spot at 11:15 there were two. To reach the spot go
south from the parking lot past the big shed and the pump and on out
to the southwest corner of the property (perhaps 0.4 mi). Go around
the wide-sweeping corner and proceed east, looking for gaps in the
vegetation (of which there aren't many) that permit you to see the
water on your left. A hundred yards or so past the corner the
expanse of water on your left abruptly widens, and a hundred yards or
so east of that, on the far shore, is where the Snowy Egrets were.
There were a few shorebirds in the same area, including several each
of both yellowlegs, Short-billed Dowitcher, Stilt Sandpiper, and
Killdeer, and a single Least Sandpiper.
