This is the Michigan Statewide Bird Report for Thursday, June 16th 2005. It 
is sponsored by Wild Bird Outfitters, located on Wilson Avenue in 
Grandville.

In CHIPPEWA COUNTY on the evening of June 13th, a WHITE-WINGED DOVE* 
appeared at the home feeders of Doug and Kathy Munson. The bird has not been 
seen since.

In ALGER COUNTY, on the morning of June 12th, Bill Hurst saw a WHITE-WINGED 
DOVE* at his home feeders in Shelter Bay. The bird reappeared on June 13th, 
but to my knowledge, has not been reported since.

In BERRIEN COUNTY, the previously reported EURASIAN COLLARED DOVES* remained 
present, through June 15th, at the village park in Three Oaks. This is 
located at northeast corner of Elm Street and Ash Street (a/k/a, US-12). As 
of 4:30am, June 16th, previously reported CHUCK-WILL’S-WIDOW* remained along 
True Road, and at times, along Jones Road near its intersection with Long 
Lake Road. On June 15th, I drove Kruger Road, between Flynn and Pardee 
Roads, and counted a conservative 20 DICKCISSELS. DICKCISSELS have appeared 
in several south county fields and pastures within the last week. On June 
11th, Brad Anderson located a WORM-EATING WARBLER in the north part of 
Warren Dunes State Park. A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT has been seen this week at 
Love Creek Nature Center (most recently on June 16th), and yet another on 
Franklin Road. A GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER has been on territory at Love Creek 
Nature Center, though June 16th. At least 1 HENSLOW’S SPARROW has been heard 
this week in an unmowed field, along North Tudor Road, just north of 
Moccasin Road.

In ALPENA COUNTY, Keith Saylor photographed a SNOWY EGRET, which was 
standing on an island, out in Lake Huron.

In WAYNE COUNTY at Oakwoods Metro Park, up to 4 DICKCISSELS have been seen 
this week. Directions: “Stay on the main road leading back toward the nature 
center, when you seethe 1 mile sign to nature center, STOP. The birds are on 
your left from the brown wooden sign.” On June 9th, at Crosswinds Marsh, 1 
AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was seen by Roger Kuhlman. It has been seen through 
at least June 15th. At times, the bird has been sitting in the midst of a 
flock of gulls towards the southwest of the main pond complex. The location 
is quite close to where the BALD EAGLES are nesting. Good viewing of this 
spot of the wetlands can be reached from the parking lot by taking the 
boardwalk that passes onto a small island.

In LIVINGSTON COUNTY on June 12th, Sean Bachman located 2 DICKCISSELS, on 
Allen Road, about a 1/2 mile east of Argentine Road. The birds were in a 
partially mown hayfield on the north side of the road. Sean parked by 
mailboxes with the addresses 6348 and 6422. 2 more DICKCISSELS were found in 
a wheat field on the west side of Bentley Lake Road. The field is .6 miles 
south of Coon Lake Road, directly across from Combine Court. Some of these 
birds have been relocated since June 12th.

In HILLSDALE COUNTY on June 12th, Steve Santner found a HENSLOW’S SPARROW in 
a large field on east side of Tripp Road, just north of Burt Road.

In LENAWEE COUNTY on June 12th, Steve Santner heard a LEAST BITTERN in the 
cattails, at Grassy Lake, which is in Onsted State Game Area. Also on June 
12th, Steve Santner found a YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, along the Raisin River 
in Tecumseh. To see this bird, park at the park on Route 50, at the east end 
of town and walk to the north on the main trail about a half mile to a green 
metal grate bridge.
