Listers-
I had Kip Miller's 1st winter Black-Legged Kittiwake at the tip of the north
pier at the St. Joseph rivermouth, St. Joseph, Berrien County, from about
1515-1550 hrs, 22 Nov 2004. Access was via Tiscornia Park and Silver Beach
County Park. It took about 2 hours searching before I found the bird, and
it was moving around quite a bit. Twice it flew to the beach just south of
the piers (it landed on the water a few feet out from the beach) and then
flew back to the area near the tip of the north pier. At 1550 hrs the bird
flew about 1/2 mile out into Lake Michigan and put down on the water all by
itself- I'd recommend scanning out into the lake if you come for the bird
tomorrow. Photos of this bird at link below.
Other birds present:
Thayer's Gull- single juvenile bird on beach about 1/2 mile south of piers
(Photos at link below).
Common Loon- 2
American Coot- 1
Sanderling- 3
