Today Mike Kelly and I found a male Harlequin Duck in eclipse plumage at the
mouth of Lake Huron in Port Huron. The duck was visible from Lighthouse Park
but the views were even better from the small viewing area that is located at
the north side of the paper mill and also from the park along the St.Clair
River that is just south of the Bluewater Bridge. In addition, the two King
Eiders, one female and one first year male, were also visible from these same
sites.
Other birds of note at the mouth of the lake as seen from Lighthouse Park
were all three species of scoters, Long-tailed Ducks and Red-necked Grebes.
