Hello,
I just pulled this off the Northbirding.com website, Rick Baetsen reporting.
Good luck to anyone going after the NORTHERN HAWK OWL! Keep us posted. J.

"I was in the east-central upper peninsula the past two days. Tuesday
November 17th, at about 9:20am, I observed a Northern Hawk-owl. Chippewa
County, on west side of M-123, about 3km south of the Tahquamenon
Rivermouth. T48N, R6W, Section 21, SE 1/4. This is a fairly open bog/alder
willow thicket, and sedge meadow opening. Location was directly opposite
the road that goes into the boat launch site at the old ghost town site of
Emerson on Whitefish Bay. The bird was perched in the top of a black
spruce, about 80 meters west of the highway. I observed it for about five
minutes before heading south and it still remained perched as I left the
site. Weather conditions were a mist and almost light rain and overcast
with heavy clouds.
At Pike Lake in northern Luce County, I had on 11/17/04, three gray jays
(that have been in the area since early summer), a black-backed woodpecker,
and boreal chick-a-dee.
There was a large fire at Camp 33 on Monday morning 11/16, at Upper
Tahquamenon Falls, that was rumored to have destroyed the Brew/Pub. As it
turns out the fire did destroy the large gift shop, but firefighters
contained it to that building and the Brew/Pub was not damaged. [Thank God!,
