Cathy Carroll, Julie Craves and I saw the 3 KING EIDERS with ease today,
Sunday, Nov 14, at approx 3:30pm. The water was fairly calm with good
lighting. The eiders would drift to the entry of the river then fly back to
the lake in front of the buoys and flow back down again.
Also present were Red-necked Grebes, Long-tailed Ducks, and other divers.

Subject: Update: King Eiders at Port Huron, St. Clair Co., 12 November 2004
As previously posted by Adam Byrne, Scott Jennex relocated the two King
Eiders at Port Huron at the south end of Lake Huron today, November 12. I
met him there around 8:30 and we were soon joined by Joe Agius. Best views
were from Lighthouse Park, where the birds would drift past to the south,
about 100+ yards out (more than half way to the green buoy), into the mouth
of the river (straight into the sun for us this morning), then fly, usually
flushed by ships/boats, back out into the lake. Only once did the birds
veer east and land in Canadian waters. The last time we saw the birds, at
about 10:45 a.m., they flew a long ways to the north (just specks in 60x)
and landed in the heat shimmer certainly at least a mile to the north. They
were so far offshore at that point that they would not be detectable from
Lakeside Park (the next one north of Lighthouse Park). The best option is
to wait at Lighthouse Park for them to either flush out of the river, or to
float back south into the river mouth. It could take a half hour or longer
for the birds to show.
To reach Lighthouse Park, take I-94 to its end and turn right onto Hancock
Road. Take Hancock Road to Wright Street and turn left (if you turn right,
you soon come to a parking area with a view of the river...Edison Park).
After turning left onto Wright Street turn right onto Garfield to Omar.
Turn left onto Omar and go about 1/4 mile to Lighthouse Park on the right.
