Grand Traverse County, White-winged Crossbills

This message is a few days late, since I did not have easy 
access to e-mail.  On Friday 28 May I had a group of 
approximately 10 White-winged Crossbills at the Grand 
Traverse Resort in Acme.  They were feeding on spruce cones 
in one of the patches of spruces on the golfcourse below the 
Terrace condominiums.  At least one or two of the birds were 
still in partial juvenal plumage with streaks on the chest 
but but otherwise were pinkish red and had distinct white 
wing patches.  A few of the birds were feeding on cones on 
the ground below the spruces.
