Hi all,

Serious birders will scoff at this report, but there is an
honest-to-goodness Barnacle Goose hanging out near the headquarters of the
Brighton State Rec Area (Chilson Road/Bishop Lake Road in Hamburg Twp.).
The bird was reported by a mystery birder on 24 May and confirmed by Chris
Kargel who works at the park. Lyle Hamilton, Sean Bachman and I saw this
attractive specimen this afternoon. It was hanging with some Canada Geese
just north of the intersection of the roads. Chris has seen it on the shore
of the Chilson Impoundment. I took some documentation quality photos, but
the point is moot. No records of this species will likely be accepted
(anywhere in NA?) since the bird is popular in captivity.

Undoubtedly most are escapes, but a few must be vagrants, right? Doesn¹t
mean it will be accepted, but the bird doesn¹t care...
