Greetings,
Earlier this evening Phil Chu found a breeding plumaged Arctic Tern at the Three Oaks water treatment ponds. It was feeding with Black Terns in the middle pond and was still present when I left shortly before 8:00 p.m.
The ponds are scheduled to be open for birding access for the Southwest Michigan Team Birdathon tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Access is not normally available.) Others are welcome to visit. If you did not see my posting yesterday regarding access rules and requests, please see the sign posted on the fence by the access gate.
The Three Oaks ponds are on Schwark Road, just north of US-12 to the west of Three Oaks. Walk-in access will be available through a gate in the fence along Schwark Road a couple of hundred yards north of the railroad crossing.
A Snowy Egret was present for most of the day, but departed with a Great Egret at about 7:30 p.m. this evening. Hopefully, it will return tomorrow....
Good birding,
Kip Miller
