Today (May 6) Ed Smith and I saw a male Prairie Warbler at Saugatuck in the
same place that one or more have been seen each of the past several
years--in the dunes just east of the north end of Oval Beach. We did not,
however, see the 2 Harlequin Ducks that have been observed recently among
the pilings at the Beach.
Other notable sightings today, all in Berrien county, included a
Yellow-throated Warbler and a Louisiana Waterthrush (heard only) off Forest
Lawn Road near the Galien River, a Hooded Warbler and a Louisiana
Waterthrush in Warren Woods State Park, and the Western Meadowlark that has
been hanging around in the vicinity of the intersection of Mill and Krueger
Roads. At about noon today the meadowlark was singing from a rather large,
bare tree perhaps 80 yards east of Mill and a quarter-mile north of Krueger.
