Hello listers,
Sorry for the late post, but the computer was having some problems
that just got cleared up.
Present May 1 and 2 along the south side of Reeds Lake in East Grand
Rapids is a male Summer Tanager. It has the large pink bill, brown
edges in the wings and tail, brown from the bill to the eye, and some
yellow-green on the lower belly. Otherwise, it's red. It's hanging
out near the gate on Reeds Lake Blvd. just around the corner from
Darby. To get there from I96, take M37, locally known as the East
Beltline, south about 3 miles to Lake Dr. Take a right (west) on Lake
Drive. Follow Lake Drive through the right turn and light at Hall
St. Look for Bonnell 1/4 mile past Hall St. Turn right on Bonnell
and then left on Darby at the next corner. Park near the end of Darby
and walk around the corner to Reeds Lake Blvd. You will will not see
a street sign here, just one mail box. Right in front of you will be
the green gate that is open during the day. The tanager has been
hanging out here.
Good birding,
Steve Minard
