Hi!
I'm new to this list & not an active birder. I was
prompted to join this list because of the extremely
unusual sighting my family had last week of a pair of
white pelicans in Michigan's upper peninsula. This
was on Parent Bay (Lake Michigan), near the western
boundary of Schoolcraft County, maybe 15-20 miles west
along the coast from Manistique. There was a huge
mass feeding frenzy of literally thousands of mixed
water birds on the bay late in the afternoon of June
24th (ring-billed gulls, common terns, loons,
cormorants, mergansers), & we spotted a pair of
pelicans among them. I noticed on your list that
several others saw 2 or 4 pelicans in the lower
peninsula in the few days preceding my sighting. How
unusual is this?
