At the Muskegon Wastewater property on Dec.15th, many raptors were seen by Jan Shillito and myself. Two Snowy Owls (one heavily barred, one medium) were in the fields along both sides of Swanson Rd. between White Rd. and Apple Ave, at mid-day. A juvenile Golden Eagle was seen in flight SE of Swanson and Apple. A Short-eared Owl was seen SW of Swanson and Laketon, at dusk. Also seen: 2 Roughlegged Hawks, one a dark-morph, adult male with spectacular feather patterns and color contrast (probably the bird Scott Jennex reported on Dec. 5), a Western Red-tailed Hawk showing all dark head, buffy golden colored belly and underwing coverts, faint belly band, light primaries/secondaries with dark tips from below, and very dark above (a beautiful bird), an adult Bald Eagle, 2 Northern Harriers, 3 Eastern Red-tailed Hawks, and 2 Kestrels. Another birder doing CBC reported seeing a Northern Goshawk near Moreland and Sherman roads.
