On Saturday, November 19, Thierry Lach reported to birders at umich.com seeing a Snowy Owl in Ionia county on David Highway at Hartwell road about 1-2 miles east of Saranac.

According to Thierry, "It was on the telephone pole just to the north of the intersection. It flew there when we were approaching, and sat there while we watched "Hedwig" for about 5 minutes. It was still there when we drove away."

I checked for the owl on Saturday around 1:00 pm and couldn't find it. Sunday morning I checked again around 9:00 am and still couldn't find it. I drove through Ionia State Recreation Area (which is about one-half mile from the David Highway/Hartwell intersection) and also along Jordan Lake Road. No luck.
