Mich-chatters:
I have about 60 Pine Siskins visiting my feeders daily, along with about half that number of Goldfinch. Two Common Redpolls spent a few days at the feeders in mid-January, but I've not seen them since. Early in the winter we had a small flock of 9 Evening Grosbeaks, the most at one time in several years, but they have not been around lately either. A few Bohemian Waxwings seem to be in the area too, as well as a fair number of Rough-legged Hawks. One Lapland Longspur spent a week in the Kittle/Galbraith Road area, mixed in with a flock of Snow Buntings. I saw a flock of Snow Buntings two weeks ago in the Fairview area that was at least 300 strong. A number of Trumpeter Swans are wintering on the AuSable River - I saw four fly over downtown Mio earlier this week.
No Pine Grosbeaks or Crossbills, however, and I've not seen a Northern Shrike here since November.
Good birding,
Jim Dawe
