[Mich-chat] Belle Isle birds - April 18, 2011

Birders,

It seems like every time I schedule myself to do bird surveys on Belle Isle, winter returns. Despite the snow this morning, I added a few species to my cumulative (since Jan 2011) list raising it to 102. New species today included 5 Common Loons, a single Common Tern with a few Forster's at the South Fishing Pier, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Brown Thrasher, Swamp Sparrow, and Barn Swallow in (or over) the woods along Nashua Creek, and two Blue-winged Teal which completed the list for expected waterfowl on the island. Waterfowl numbers are dwindling considerably now, with the most numerous species being Bufflehead, Red-breasted Merganser and Ruddy Duck.
