On last Saturday Scott Sneed and Tom Ford found the Least Bittern and American Bitterns at Arcadia marsh on M-22 in northern Manistee County. I was tardy and joined them at 7:00 and we checked the pier at Arcadia and the Onekama sewage ponds and found only Spotted, Solitary Sandpipers, Lesser yellowlegs and Killdeer.
On Sunday Scott and I checked the Manistee State Game area and found three Willow Flycatchers on territory along with a female Merlin. At the First St. beach in Manistee there were Piping Plovers (1 ad. and 1 juv), ad. Sanderlings, Least ,Semipalmated and Spotted Sandpipers. At Fifth Ave. there was an adult Bonaparte's Gull with very red legs and a first summer Great Black-backed Gull, somewhat unusual for summer in NW mich.
Monday morning brought the first "wave" of migrants warblers into Bear Lake. I had no binos and could only identify one Wilson's.
