Folks -

On impulse this morning, decided to take an Election Day Holiday and checked
the Lakewood sewage ponds near Lake Odessa (Ionia) and the Potterville (Eaton)
sewage ponds. Nice day to be out.

There were lots of ducks and geese at Lakewood, but someone was hunting off
the north edge and the birds were quite jumpy. I decided to give the waterfowl
a break and did not check the far pond. Waves of Canada, 300+ shovelor, 100+
Ruddy, etc. Best were 3 Cackling Geese.

Also had a small group of Bonaparte's. Shorebirds represented by Killdeer, 2
Pectoral, and a Long-billed Dowitcher which seemed to fly of to the south,
leaving the ponds entirely.

Had 3-4 Snow Bunting go over and a loose flock of 10-12 Lapland Longspur came
rattling by later.

On a tip from Kevin Thomas, I stopped by his house and had at least two Pine
Siskin at his feeders.

Not so many waterfowl at Potterville, but had nearly the same group of
shorebirds John Baumgartner saw there yesterday - 9 Killdeer, 4 snipe, 1 of each
yellowlegs, and one Pectoral. These are probably late dates for the area for
smaller yellowlegs and the Pectoral.

Take care. - Doug McWhirter
