Birders . . . White-winged Crossbills continue to be seen daily along
Herring Rd in Benzie Co. They are feeding on spruce cones in planted
trees along the road that are not very high that make for good views.
From the corner of Herring Rd and M22, 7 s of Frankfort and 5 n or
Arcadia, there are spruces for about a 1/2 mile on the South side of
the road. I have seen them most across the road from Benzie
Automotive. There are also ones in the swamp another 1/4 mile down
the road but much harder to see. Hard to tell how many as they keep
flying up and moving to other trees when a flock flies by or a noisy
truck/car flushes them, but there are at least 25 and I feel like
there are small flocks moving around with birds coming and going.
