another bird hazard, fencing?

I have an area that I have fenced in to help protect trees from deer. This "exclosure" is about 100 feet by 20 feet and has been in place for two years. There are already young pin cherry's that are several feet high, in blossom and now host to several tent catipillar nurserys as well as dozens of maples, oaks, chestnut, and birch trees that I have planted. The exclosure is noticably more verdant than the surronding overgrazed ground .

This morning while walking the dog I notice a dead bird inside and near the fence. The bird was a Black-billed Cuckoo. The bird appeared to have broken its neck I assume by colliding with the wire fence. I have heard of waterfowl colliding with electric wires but not passerines (or near passerines).
