Birders, Arcadia was the place to be again this morning after
Keith Westphal's Bewick's Wren yesterday. At the end of Chamberlin
road from 7 AM until about 9:30 there was wave after wave of warblers
moving north. Every 5 minutes or so the birds would build up until a
few (30 - 50) started to fly together over the canal to Starke Pt.
The movement was continuous until about 9:00 when the faucet was
turned off and it was suddenly quite with virtually no migrants left.
It was one of the biggest concentrations of warblers I have seen
along the coast here. Mostly butterbutts and palms with a few others
thrown in; magnolia, bl-th blue, chestnut-sided, cape may, nashville,
blue wing (song only) and one Kirtland's (I have photo but not posted
anywhere). I was still hunting with my camera at the last vegetation
before the canal and briefly saw the bird before it moved north.
Keith showed up in time to confirm that I was not hallucinating about
the numbers of birds. Then we had a Willet fly by heading south.
